About Designs Anew Glass Art

Designs Anew Glass Art is all about passion. It is all about total involvement where all else becomes irrelevant. It is all about spending that exclusive time in my studio utterly engrossed; hands constantly moving; mind riveted to watching the glass evolve and metamorphosize.
Usually it turns out as expected, but occasionally the piece takes a different route entirely, disappointing or maybe amazingly transformed.
For those of us who are addicted to glasswork, nothing is a failure, but always a learning point. Whether I am in my studio with others or alone, music accompanying the cutter's scores or in perfect quiet; I am absorbed, I am happy, I am doing what I love.

Barb Mueller is the driving force behind Designs Anew Glass Art. She is an artist and designer who started working with stained glass over 30 years ago creating intricate copper foiled glass panels and ornaments.
During the pandemic, Barb discovered Glass Fusing and quickly became hooked!
Glass fusing or "kilnforming," is a method of artistic expression that uses the heat of a kiln to melt two or more different pieces of glass together and fuse them into one piece.
Opaque and transparent pieces of fusible glass are shaped and ground into forms, then kiln-fired together. Tiny pieces of glass called frit may be added to give texture to a flat 2-D panel.
To create bowls or other contours, this newly formed flat glass is then placed over a ceramic mold and "slumped" to form a specific shape pulled downward by gravity and heat.
